Best Buy® Wants to Know: Is Your House Haunted By Old, Outdated Technology?

Enter at www.ScaryTechnology.com for a chance to win a home theater makeover by Insignia with complete Geek Squad installation

MINNEAPOLIS, October 7, 2009 – Trapped in a house haunted by once useful, but now useless, gadgets and gizmos? Is your outdated technology truly scary – maybe a VCR that eats tapes, a screeching dial-up modem, a dryer that devours socks, or a laptop that could double as a headstone? Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY) can help! Today, with a little help from Poltergeist’s Zelda Rubenstein (Tangina), the nation’s largest consumer electronics retailer launches “Scary Technology,” a photo contest for consumers to show us their outdated home technology for a chance to win a complete home theater makeover.

Between October 7 – October 26, 2009, consumers can submit their spooky snapshots (no logos please), along with a 140-character caption describing their technology horror, to www.ScaryTechnology.com gaining inspiration from an original video starring Rubenstein. Winners will be announced on October 31, with our Grand Prize winner receiving a $3,500 Insignia Home Theater makeover (www.insigniaproducts.com), including Geek Squad Installation (www.GeekSquad.com). Additional prizing includes a $1,500 Best Buy Gift Card to the first runner up, while the second prize winner will receive a $1,000 Best Buy gift card.

“With the increasing complexity of today’s technology, Best Buy recognizes the need to provide our customers with the solutions to ensure they are getting the most out of the products they purchase,” said Barry Judge, executive vice president and CMO for Best Buy. “This includes our commitment to provide end of life options for these devices by offering new ways to recycle and trade in old or obsolete technology.”

Best Buy Offers Solutions for Outdated Technology
Best Buy is committed to making it easier for consumers to choose greener products, use energy for electronics and appliances more efficiently and provide appropriate end of life solutions for the products sold. Best Buy has a number of easy in-store and online solutions for clearing the clutter and combating the confines of haunted technology, including:
• Our Recycling Program: Offered at all of our U.S. Stores, Best Buy offers an in-store solution for customers to bring in their unwanted consumer electronics for recycling. Our stores currently accept most consumer electronics and accessories, with a limit of 2 units per day per household.
• Trade-In: With Trade In, customers can exchange their gently used electronics either in-store (for select products) or online for a Best Buy gift card. Our online estimator is easy to use when determining a product’s value. If the estimate is accepted online, Best Buy will pay shipping charges and mail a gift card shortly after receipt of the item.
