Best Buy Announces Scholarship Opportunity for College-Bound Students

Company will award $1 Million in Scholarships through @15

MINNEAPOLIS, January 25, 2010 – Best Buy Co., Inc. today announced the launch of the @15 Scholarship program, which will award 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to students in grades 9 through 12 living in the United States, including D.C. and Puerto Rico, who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon graduation from high school.

Best Buy is proud to award $1 million to deserving students as part of @15, Best Buy’s platform to connect with teens, give voice to their perspectives and support teen efforts to lead social change.

Winners will be selected based on their outstanding commitment to and involvement in community service or work experience, along with a solid academic performance. The nonrenewable, one-time scholarship is open to students from public, private, alternative and home school backgrounds as well as to Best Buy employees and their relatives.

The deadline for scholarship applications is February 15, 2010. Winners will be announced May 14, 2010 on www.at15.com.

The application process is handled entirely online and is only available to teen members of www.at15.com. In addition to being able to apply for the @15 Scholarship, active members of @15 are able to earn points they can use each quarter to allocate charitable dollars from the @15 Fund to nonprofit organizations that support teens. Applicants receive 300 points for becoming members of the site and 1,500 points if they apply for the scholarship before February 1, 2010. As of February 2010, teens will have given away $1 million to Best Buy’s nonprofit partners.
