Best Buy's Consumer Electronics Recycling

Our goal is to provide accessible solutions for our customers and employees to recycle the products we sell in a convenient, safe, responsible and environmentally friendly fashion.

To ensure all products collected for recycling through Best Buy are handled responsibly, we partner directly with qualified and respected recycling companies. Best Buy partners exclusively with recyclers who uphold the Best Buy internal standards outlined below as well as the external standards we honor:

  • Strict, responsible controls that protect human health and the environment.
  • The dumping of electronic waste on developing nations should be prohibited.
  • No exportation of whole non-working units for recycling.
  • No engagement of prison labor in the collection, treatment or processing consumer electronics.
  • Shall not utilize incineration as a management strategy for electronics and components unless applicable law requires the use of one of these technologies (e.g., thermal destruction of PCBs).
  • Documentation of employee safety programs and training.
  • Documentation and review of all permits, licenses and certificates of Insurance.
  • Tracking and Reporting of units collected and processed.
  • Reporting and documentation of end markets for all commodities derived from the processing of electronics.
  • Representation of adequate liability insurance, including pollution liability insurance.
  • Review of historical environmental compliance.
  • Tracking and reporting of units collected and processed.
  • Best Buy's ability to audit, at will, all the recyclers we work with to ensure compliance of the outlined criteria and objectives.
  • Working exclusively with recyclers that meet or exceed the regulation and guidelines established by the EPA and the Plug In to E-Cycling campaign.
